VIDA’s Top Five Favorite Halloween Movies
1. The Addams Family (1991)
The Addams Family is America’s legendary weirdo family, and we love them! The ghoulish family lives in a gothic mansion next to a graveyard. Sounds like spooky heaven! Amid weird and funny moments, you see how the plot shifts when the family attorney owes money to a loan shark while the loan shark’s son impersonates a long lost brother.
2. Hannibal – Netflix series (2013)
Hannibal is another gruesome Netflix series on our list, and it is to die for! Will Graham is a consultant with the FBI. Much like Spencer from Criminal Minds, Will has a special gift to empathize with any individual. This skill helps him solve vicious murders. Hannibal is a highly respected psychiatrist from whom the FBI seeks help. Will and Hannibal hit it off, and Will becomes a patient of Hannibal’s. Little does Will know that Hannibal might be the most wanted serial killer in the US.
3. Apostle (2018)
If you are fascinated by paganism, cults, religion, or period pieces, you will love Apostle. The year is 1905, and Thomas Richardson travels to an island to rescue his sister after being kidnapped by a religious cult. It becomes clear that the cult will regret the day they kidnapped this woman and baited this man as he digs deeper into their secrets and lies.
4. 1922 (2017)
Two words: Stephen King. 1922 is one of Stephen King’s adaptations released by Netflix. It tells the story of a farmer who, with the help of his 14-year-old son, decides to kill his wife for financial security. Shortly after, strange and supernatural occurrences begin to happen to both James and his farm. Is it just simple bad luck, or is it something much bigger?
5. The Orphanage (2007)
Last up is the Orphanage. The story revolves around a woman who returns to the orphanage she grew up in with intentions of reopening it. Laura has an adopted son who begins to see invisible friends that Laura believes to be the fruit of his imagination. That is, of course, until she begins to feel a ghostly presence in the house.
